VW Audi Design Center
Wolcott embraced the opportunity to transform a unique space to accommodate the design studios and workshop facilities for the automotive design teams of VW/Audi. As the former Museum of Flying, the 50,000 square foot building provided opportunities for a truly innovative and creative space. Wolcott capitalized on the building’s distinct structural characteristics: an exposed steel structure, an existing three story atrium, ample ceiling height, and a clerestory.
After incorporating a building expansion, Wolcott’s plan positioned the modeling facility on the ground floor and used former hangar areas to accommodate the various craft shops. The second floor houses the designer workstations, the graphics rooms, and color and trim department. Public areas and administrative rooms were created on the third floor, including the main Conference Center as well as team break areas and an employee kitchen/pantry overlooking the 2-story space.
